TU 14-3R-55-2001 Quick Reference for Steam Boiler Tubes

1. Standard Overview

This standard covers seamless steel tubes for steam boilers and pipelines, including cold drawn, hot rolled, hot pressed and reduced tubes. Dimensions: hot rolled tubes OD 25-530 mm, wall thickness 2.5-90 mm; cold drawn tubes OD 25-108 mm, wall thickness 2.0-25 mm. Lengths: random 3-12 m (hot rolled 4-12 m), fixed lengths as required. Tolerances: OD +-0.25 mm to +-1.25%, wall thickness +-8% to +20%/-5% depending on size. Straightness: 1.5-4.0 mm per meter based on wall thickness.

5. Inspection Requirements

100% mandatory: dimensional check, surface inspection, ultrasonic testing (for longitudinal defects), and hydrostatic test. Per batch sampling: chemical analysis (3 pieces per heat), room temperature tensile (2%), impact (2%), hardness, and process tests (flaring, flattening, bending). Additional tests on customer request: high temperature tensile, creep rupture strength, intergranular corrosion (for stainless), transverse ultrasonic, etc.

7. Key Notes

This TU standard is stricter than GOST and is specially designed for supercritical and ultra-supercritical boiler applications.
The three core heat-resistant grades are 12Kh1MF (570-585 C), 15Kh1M1F (<=585 C), and 12Kh2MFSR (<=620 C).
10Kh9MFB-Sh is approximately equivalent to P91, but composition and inspection details differ; verify before substitution.
100% ultrasonic testing is mandatory, using standard reference samples (SOP) for defect evaluation.
Among austenitic grades, 12Kh18N12T offers the highest temperature resistance (up to 800 C for short-term pipe service).
